Winnings ...

I won some beautiful British Southdown fiber in a drawing at a great website called PhatFiber. I've learned much there. I have never spun yarn but I certainly will now. The colors in this marigold fiber are beautiful. I'm going to purchase a drop spindle and hopefully will be successful in spinning this beautiful fiber and knitting something equally beautiful. I love the look of a spinning wheel. It reminds me of Granny's house when I was a kid. She had a huge one. I never saw anyone use it but I remember it was beautifully decorated at Christmases. I am a leg amputee and the one foot I do have has become paralyzed in recent years due to nerve damage. I have not seen a spinning wheel I could use so I will give the drop spindle a try. Has anyone used one of those before? Or should I pay someone to spin for me? haha

The sweet card says "Laugh Yourself into Stitches". It was so nice of the website owner to send such a nice note with the fiber. I love the bright sunshiny colors. What a nice thing to look at on a rainy day.

Wishing you a great weekend!

  1. Hi Lesley-
What a beautiful dramatic color for this yarn!! It looks SO soft!!
Thank you for your visit and comments--- to answer your question about where I buy my yarns-- honestly no. I buy yarn everywhere we go-- my husband automatically knows that I will want to visit the LYS where ever we are. I do have favorite places though-- if I buy online- I love the folks at Yarnmarket. I've also been known to veg from people who have stashes on Ravelry!!

  2. Hi LesleyAnn!
Oh my, what beautiful fiber! The colorway is just gorgeous. I know it's going to be fun for you to spin. I'm wondering if you might ought to practice on some scrap fiber first though since it usually takes a while to perfect your technique. You'll be able to tell when you try it, I'm sure. Have a wonderful week!

    1. Oh yes. I've already decided to practice MUCH before I start on this lovely fiber. ha I'm so excited to get into but I don't want to have lumpy yarn. :-) Have you spun fiber before? I always admire everything you do and you are such a perfectionist at it all. I hope your week is a great one!

    2. Oh, LesleyAnn, I'm not a good spinner at all. I did try on a drop spindle at first, but my singles were so tight they were useless. Then I got an Ashford Elizabeth which I love to LOOK AT. LOL. I took a spinning class and practiced long enough on it that I spun up a fleece that I bought, but mostly I just look at my wheel. I guess I'm really not a spinner. My my, that is beautiful fiber!

  3. It isn't quite traditional looking, but they make electric hand spinners. Some of them have hand controlled speed.

It is one of the more expensive models out there.

this one is a bit more reasonable, but has a foot control. But the man who makes those wheels is very nice and I'm sure if you are interested he could make it hand controlled

    1. Thank you Nadine! That's some great info. I didn't even realize there were electric wheels. ha Do you go to the Fiber Clan meetings in South Point? If they still meet, I'd like to go and see how it's all done. I'd thought of asking to Cyndi Bolt to teach me since we live so close to one another. If I can learn without taking up someone else's time, that would be great. Thank you, again, for the info. I'll check these links out.

      Wishing you a great week!

    2. I do, we would love to have you. The 4th Monday of every month. And we would all be glad to show you how it is done. If you let us know ahead of time, I think there is someone with an electric wheel. They might be able to bring it to see if you like it.
